Posting ebay ads on Pelican classifieds

RANT ON
Sure, it's a free forum (well kind'a), but I've never been very fond of the ads that show up here on Pelican for members' ebay auctions. It's good for the seller, for sure, and YES, I understand that's what it's all about...but you're sure not doing anyone here on the board any favors. Now maybe if you give us the first crack at the goodies for sale.
RANT OFF

Frequently, sellers can't even come up with an asking price in the classifieds. Maybe Ebay is the best place for people like that.

When Wayne redesigns the website he might want to a 911 ebay parts for auction forum and keep the classifieds for striaght up sales.

What is a good used one worth to you? Not sure what the current market is. Last time I checked used ones were going for $250+, since they are no longer available new. "" this was recently posted to me hmmm i think i would rather get a reflector anyday on ebay. $250 ? someone has the cash to blow or they are just not informed

I may be dissenting here a bit, but I would prefer an eBay auction link rather than the 'best offer' ads that have lately created a number of 'Sold.... unless you can offer more - then I'll let the other guy counter offer so maybe I won't sell it to you anyway' situations.

Personally, I like to use the Pelican ads with a price and then eBay it if no one bites after a week or so.

Regards,
Andrew M

I posted the same sentiments in the classifieds here a while back and Wayne himself chimed in that he didn't see a problem with it.

I still don't like it but if the man himself says it is okay then I guess it has to be okay.

Just one other thought that I have about it is that it seems most of the active members on this forum seem to try to give the other members a crack at something before they put it on e-bay.

The ones that really bug me are those that you never see on this board. They only show up on the classifieds to advertise their stuff on e-bay.
ok, nuff said

Is this about the factory hardtop that disappeared from our Classifieds, then disappeared from ebay (was cancelled)?

I don't understand your objection. It's just the disemination of information; take it or leave it. Would you rather find out after the fact that a rare part you've been looking for just sold on ebay? And why should we expect anyone to give us a better deal here?

Nope, have two 911 coupes. It's a general displeasure with the concept - "Hey, I've got stuff for sale. Go fight for it on ebay with all the masses."

It doesn't do our fellow Pelicans any more good than it does for Joe or Jane off the street. But I can understand and sympathize with the sellers. They want money for stuff they don't need. I'd just PREFER the people that make up this "on-line community" had the first crack at what's being sold. Having said that, I sure don't think we need any stinkin' rules. Once again...RANT OFF

Why not post it here first and then if it doesn't sell put it on ebay. Why pay ebay fees if you can work a deal here?

When you say "Give Pelicans a break" do you mean the Pelicans who are buying or selling??? Your premise is that Pelicans who are selling parts should forsake some money to the benefit of Pelicans who are buying. As an occasional seller, that doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

I always sell using Ebay because it simplifies the process when 2 buyers show up. The thing that really Pi$$es me off are guys who will make a deal with you until someone else shows up with a few more bucks. I wouldn't be honest if I didn't admit to being tempted to do that myself. But I'd feel really sleezy afterwards. Selling parts on Ebay resolves that since everyone gets an equal chance to put their best bid in. Posting it here in the classifieds gives the die-hard Pelicans the opportunity to bid on something that they might miss if they weren't crusing for deals on Ebay.

Since I always do no-reserve auctions, if no-one wants the part, bidding on ebay can allow a buyer to get the part for less then I might let it go for if I was only posting it in the classifieds and holding out for the "next potential" buyer.

consider this, I myself posted that I may be parting out a car.

I received several offers on parts. I've not yet removed a single part from the car but I've allready been offered the generous amount of $75 for a pair of H1 lights. similarly if I offer what kind of price I want for something I get a response of "it's not worth that much"

so I probably WILL put most of the items on ebay unless I get realistic offers.

maybe I will offer a "buy it now price" but otherwise I don't see how it's unfair to have to "fight it out". value of rare items is determined by demand.

please don't anybody send me offers to buy this complete S mfi system for $500. you will most likely have to fight it out on ebay of that is the case.

best of luck,

paul schuster

Not surprising there's strong feelings on both sides of this. I just hope the classifieds don't morph into an extension of ebay. It would really "bottom" my "emotional rejection."
