Contest: Guess the estimate!

OK kids...I've got the estimate to fix my car. This is a "retail" estimate using retail price on parts and labor. You have until 5pm today to guess. The winner will get a Blopuck Xmas CD, and some random Porsche book.

btw, the actual number isn't going to kill me, and TRE is sourcing parts as we speak. The silver spigot will no longer be a pristine SC, but I'm going to try and make it a little meaner in the process...

DavidI 12-12-2003 08:53 AM

$3800 if it is an insurance job. $2500 if you do it on the side.

Wayne 962 12-12-2003 08:55 AM

Retail price on parts? Hmm, $13,480, including retail on a new Fuchs alloy. This includes retail on all the new sheet metal parts that were damaged (frame pieces that have to be ordered from Germany).

$6280

But "a little meaner" mean not stock...too many variables to intelligently guess.

Neilk 12-12-2003 08:57 AM

Using the Price is Right bidding strategy, if Wayne says $13,480, I say $13,481.

Actually, my real guess is $7,100.

Type911 12-12-2003 08:58 AM

"tell him what he's won Bob !"

Where's the eligibility disclaimer!!!

This contest is fraught with fraud. Are employees of TRE eligible? What's to prevent some scoundrel with a name like Tyson from posting his guess at 4:59PM????? ;) ;) ;)

JavaBrewer 12-12-2003 09:24 AM

Wow I missed some action - sorry to hear the news Todd. Scarey how things can change so quickly huh. When you stop to consider the 'what-ifs' you're a very lucky man. Echoing what's already been said about INS - shop around. FWIW, we have State Farm on home ins and all cars. Wife totalled 1 LR Disco, I got $1K damage from a stolen stereo (old truck), and one claim on HO, insurance company never raised our rates - and yes they are competitive.

Does your quote include the "little meaner" stuff or just back to original condition? I'm guessing $4300 w/o mean stuff. Remember, mean people suck. :)

sammyg2 12-12-2003 09:25 AM

$10,920
