Center Grill 1970

I just purchased a 1971 center speaker grill for my dash. I have a 1970 911 T Targa. The 1971 did not fit. Are the dashes different from 1970 to 1971 or do I possibly have a different dash? I think it is the correct dash but I am not positive. Only had the car a few weeks.

i've noticed myself that even if you own a 73 and order parts for a 73 , they may not always fit ... it could be that your's isn't stock anymore , previous owners did some mods on it...
so post your measurements, maybe somebody else with a 1970 T can compare with his speaker grill and speaker mounts... ...

Are you sure it just isn't warped such that it won't fit? I thought that all removable speaker grilles were the same.

I don't think so but I'm gonna go home today and try again using a bigger hammer. Seriously, there is nothing for the grill to attach to. There is a gap between where the speaker would be and the grill. I assume something must go there for the grill to attach to.

Can you post a photo? I think something might be seriously awry.

Someone just sent me to 911S Registry where there are photos. My dash doesn't have the female connections for the male inserts on the grill. I don't know what I have. Will have to take photos and post.

After looking again I wonder if they have installed one of the dash overlays on this car. That would explain alot. Still checking.

I have a 70T and will measure the dash if necessary, email.

I think the only difference with the coupes were the targas had a wider shift tunnel to stiffen the chassis but I'm not sure(?) The only dash option difference was a center speaker(?)
73 and later was different I believe.
