value of engine

Any ideas on what a 2.7L engine is worth? It has SSIs, and all the right work to stregthen the internals has been done (and documented with service receipts). It is known to run well (witnesses) and a full electronic test was done on a Sun machine right before it was removed from the car (owner is moving to a 3.2).

I'm wondering what it is worth?

I agree with Brian.

$4,500 !!!!!

I was thinking maybe $2,500. $4,500 will get you a nice 3.0.

Having bought a complete and documented 2.7 with all CIS, exhaust, etc., I would say closer to $3,500 for an excellent example.

Ok, 2 people in Calif. say $4,500, 1 person in NC says $3,500....

- maybe there is a lot of regional variation in prices? I guess I'm lucky to be on the West Coast.

My 78 SC engine, resealed, cost 4500! 4500 is too much for a 2.7. A good running one is probably not worth more than 3000. This one with SSI is probably 3000. Stock CIS? Carbs? Mileage?

Of course I wouldn't pay more than 2000 for a 2.7 that is stock...I'd aim higher...toward a 3.0 if I was going to pay 2000+

It depends on the buyer.

Nope, the engine I bought was in Santa Barbara.

I'm assuming a recent rebuild, with all proper updates, with all documentation. And adding $500 for the SSI's.

Although mine is just a guess - take it with a grain of salt. Based on what others are saying, I guess I'd lower mine a bit.

But, a quality, documented rebuild and SSIs do add to the value. You can't really compare it to an unrebuilt, undocumented 3.0.

Plus, I'm an optimist! If you were a potential buyer, instead of a seller, I would say offer $3K!

I sold a european 2.7 in great shape (rebuilt top to bottom in Germany at a dealership with 67K miles) with heater block-off, headers and other goodies for $3500. Wayne thought that was a "great price" at the time and that I was lucky to get it.
