Engine bay release cable

Just recently, when I pull the release cable for the engine bay cover nothing happens. I then have to push up and down on the lid several times before it will release and open.

Is this caused by a stretched/bad cable...or would it be in the release mechanism (latch)?

This happened to mine as well. I relocated the male portion of the latch which just requires loosening the 2 bolts and moving it until it goes in the receptacle correctly. Before I did that I removed the spring on the male portion (just loosen the jam nut and unscrew the male portion) and stretched it out a bit and reassembled it. Now it pops up perfect

I had a similar trouble. Replacing the rear deck lid shocks solved my problem.

If the lid won't stay up, it's the shock. If it won't jump up that first inch when released it is an alignment or a spring issue.
