Was it my imagination or did they edited in a little Carrera GT at the beginning?

They added some nice track footage of the Carrera GT at the end.

Cool

Well my eyes were glued to the screen.

I noticed some footage of a hill climb? with a 916?

From the footage, how could you tell?

There was not evolution of the 934 cars, 930 street cars.
I noticed that there was no 935 footage of cars from IMSA. Actuallly the early VanLinnlip car was in there and some of #59 as an RSR.

I guess that I have never been able to successfully explain Porsche to anyone anyhow.

In all. my wife recognized the twin exhaust sound. I dig it!

what was up with the truck coming the other way when the 908 (?) was doing the mountain road?!?

As for the content/commercial ratio, would you prefer 6 minutes of commercials and 16 minutes of yet another nascar thingie? It is the time of the year to be thankful for what we have...it could be worse.

And I want a 904.

And when I switched to the show, my son saw the 904 and said, "hey, a Porsche."

I do wish they had the entire line-up. I do think they do a darn good job on the shows though.

Wink

Was it my imagination or did Alan refer to a whaletail as a tea tray tail? I was under the impresion that the whaletail was the first generation turbo tail and the tea tray tail was the this one. Just details, I thought the show was spectacular.

My Tivo switched channels to the airing tonite. I have seen it umpteen times and have it on tape, so I was like..."yawn, ho hum, good show"....

But then towards the end, the Carrera GT footage came on. Definitely a new addition and Alan even mentioned "in 2003 Porsche released..."

At that moment, even my wife turned around and asked "what's THAT?!?!". Believe me, that is a rarity. She has very good taste...ahem... but is NOT a car person at all.

Jon's spectating script--first two minutes:

Jon: "Carrera GT. Hmm, cool"

Jon: "550 Spyder on gravel: Excellent!"

Jon: "Ruf Yellowbird at the Nurburgring! Whooooaaaa!"

Daphne: "Look, that car smokes just like ours does. I guess all Porsches do that."

Jon: "Um, yes just like ours..."

I agree with the beauty of the 904. There was one in a local shop here a few years ago the mechanic said the owner was preping it for some historic Pan-Americana race. They seemed to cut a lot out this time, I've got the tape somewhere of an older broadcast I'll have to watch and compare.

I didn't even bother watching since I have it on tape, or so I thought. But the version that I have (taped a year or two ago) was 90 minutes, last nights show was listed as 60 minutes. Of course the version I have doesn't have the Carrera GT, but it does have a lot of footage of pretty much everything that came before.

As far as the question about the 916, the 916 was a twin-cam version of the 906 motor. It was installed briefly into a 911R but drivers didn't like it because it seemed peakier then then "normal" 906 style motor. It did provide the link between the single cam 911/906 motors and the twin cam 908/917 motors.

I thought the show was great-too short though. The sounds of the engines at high RPM and shifting made my day.

I wonder how many of the engine noises were from the actual footage though? I'm willing to bet that less than 10% of the audio you heard was from the original source.

The miracles of post production...

Scenes from the Targa Florio.
Trucks, donkey carts, animals, drunken peasants, and a race, all at the same time.

I wonder about the post production foley affects as well, although, in the "Making of" they made a big point of the reality of it all. No tricks.

The sound of the Carrera GT at the end was to die for.

A Ducati and a Carrera GT and I could die contented!
