ok this is for all you uk 911sc drivers.two questions lm trying to find what good oil readings should be when driving with engine, warm my readings are 4.5 to 5 when driving anywhere above 3.5 rpm and back down to 3-2 when idling.also my oil gauge seems to up around alot some time can go almost to the red .ok i know this means i need to top up the oil but i only need to add half a liltre to take the reading right up to the top but it still seems to jump around this also moves with engine revs.

Mj,
Is this the oil level guage or the oil pressure guage. It sounds like it's measured in Bar or atmopheres (sp?). Your oil pressure should be about 1 bar for every 1000 rpms. Don't worry about the oil level guage. Just make sure you have enough oil to be right in the middle of the dipstick at idle when the car is warm. Hope this helps as a start Tim

That sounds like good pressure to me. It seems very close to what my 86 had when I owned it ,from 20000 mi to 65000 mi.I have just bought an old SC and it has about 4.5 above 3000 rpm but it falls to closer to 1 at idle.I have added a front carrera cooler and the cam oil restrictors but have not run it yet to determine what changes have done.

Oil pressure and oil level will move around a bunch when you rev the motor. When the car is completely warm the normal pressure is 1-2 bar and then when you rev it the pressure is generally 1 bar per every 1000 rpm with the max being probably around 5 bar.
It is normal, acceptible, and good for the oil pressure to change as the revs change.

Oh, and if you are looking at the oil level gauge, then expect it to go to 0 when you rev the motor. The only time it should read is when the car is sitting still, completely warm, and has been idling for 5-20 seconds, then we expect it to be around the middle of the gauge, but as long as you are on the gauge you should be fine.

thanks everyone
thanx for all the help....seems i have nothing to worry about cars done 96478.and at the moment seems to have a oil leak onto the passenger heat/ex .sadly for my liking the car has been lower to the max and give the car way to much bump steer .any turbo tie rod kit fitted.also the car seem to get loads of under steer {front wheel not turning in}could this also be the lowering and the camber being set to the tightest.

it sounds asd though your gauge is reading high. mine is the same. it should be much lower than 3-2 on idle. i bought a new sender to try but havent installed yet.
the car was built with inherent understeer, you can try a number of things to change the handling. swap t/bars (what i'm doin), uprate the anti roll bars, etc. try a search, there is a TON of info here! good luck.
