Carpet Installation

Has anyone tackled a carpet replacement on 911's? I was planing on tacking the project myself but needed feedback from everyone who has done this before. Is this project more for professionals?

Tom Sharp has a very nice website where he describes how he installed the carpet in his targa.

Tom's homepage

Not a hard job at all. Just do it in nice weather.
As you remove the old carpet, save it and lay it out. Also, take a piece of paper and draw a schematic on what went where and more inportently, in what order.
The majority of the work is pulling the seats and panels out of the car.
It is also nice to have a helper handy to hold pieces in position so they don't get stuck to the glue prematurely. Use a can of 3M contact adhesive.

You ought to be pretty pleased with the results.

thanks doc, 3M adhesive from any store or a special kind for carpets. Are the seats in the back glued on the carpet or bolted in?

I will try Tom's website as well.

MIne were glued down... It'll make one hell of a mess when you pull them off. Porsche used something like Horse hair as stuffing and it makes a big mess.

I didn't reupholster my door panel pockets as I converted to RS door panels, so I'm not much help there.
See if Tom still has his website up. If not, I do believe Wayne added all of his site material to the Tech Articles here on this site. Check both.

Best of luck,
Lee

When I bought my carpet from Appbizz they specifically recomended a profesional install. I promptly disregarded the advice and did it myself. It took about 5 hours. It looks very good and I am very proud of myself.
If I could figure out how to work my digital camera I would send pictures.

Thats were I bought mine and the only concern I had was the fit. If your install was straightforward and everyone's advice, I will attempt this project myself.
