Should I winterize or not???

Since this is my first winter, I'm not sure whether to take my 82 911SC Targa out of commission for the winter, or keep it ready to drive once or twice a month. I'm on Long Island NY so there are many days in the 40's during the winter that are perfect for driving. What should I do to keep it ready for these nice days while still protecting it?

I drove my '86 in some pretty bad winter weather and some perfect days as well. It was great to have it out but not as a daily driver, IMHO. So, I suggest you do just as you suggest: wait for the good days and have fun. Better for the car anyway.

I would drive it on nice days too. Keep in mind that if you do, drive it long enough to heat up completely so as to get all condensation and moisture out of the oil.

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I can't see not driving it at all in the winter, the car is way too much fun.

i would get a trickle charger/conditioner for the battery - leave it connected (i got a porsche one that plugs into the lighter socket).

then when you use it, take it for a good long drive.

Trickle charge

My battery is fairly new, would I still need to do this?

dickster 12-16-2003 11:24 AM

frankie

yes, it keeps your battery in tip top condition when not in use (stops it going flat).

so its ready to go when ever you are!

- its not a regular charger.

Battery Trickle

Interesting. Are they expensive?

dickster 12-16-2003 11:58 AM

not really, i paid around £30 (US$50), but probably cheaper in the states.

they are used alot by bikers in the uk 'cause the fair weather riders dont use 'em much in the winter.
