"Helium Foot" me, what's the cure???
Well I like to drive the 911 whenever I can, (including work, where I can see the car). However, I have an issue after driving the other car, which does not have a clutch, and therefore very little foot effort as only the gas and brake are required. But then when switching back to the 911, where the clutch has to be depressed, sometimes I have a trendency to not press down far enough on the clutch pedal, and therefore a little crunching may occur . (No crunching when depressed sufficiently, and the Sachs clutch is new and in excellent working order)
The effort to press down the clutch pedal is not much (I have had many clutch operated vehicles). It may be the apprehension, that I might break something (or perhaps stretch the cable), that may be the source of the inhibition. Is there a remedy for this "Helium Foot" me?

Make sure the clutch cable is adjusted correctly (replace if it’s old), and then adjust the throw by adjusting the pedal stop. Once you are sure everything is right, stomp it to the floor! Your tranny will thank you.

This is not a Porsche problem, this is a USER problem!
Seriously, if you are sure the clutch cable is properly adjusted, maybe the carpet is bunching up underfoot? Other than that, stop driving that sportomatic!

Thats funny svanndamme! I was just commenting to my girlfriend today, on how the toes of my left foot go numb. This is when driving either of my cars.
I thought it may be a left over symptom of a very bad ankle injury 2 years ago. Guess not?

i twisted my ankle pretty bad too, but i only have it in the 911 which has a very hard clutch ( even compared to the Saab 900 turbo i used to drive , which untill then i thought was like concrete)

When I first got my 911 I thought the clutch was very stiff. The previous owner rarely drove the car. Now that I have driving it much more than he did, the clutch seems easier from more use.

I have this problem on the 308 too. The BMW clutch is featherweight compared to it - feels like it's disconnected!

Moving the seat forward will almost certainly work.

![]() Seriously, you guys don't drive in traffic and keep the clutch down when stopped do you? I snick it out of gear when close to stopping and leave it in neutral with the clutch out until I can proceed. I try to average the speed so I don't come to a full stop the much. Pedal down all the time is hard on things. Speaking of traffic, I just spent 2.5 hrs. going 27 miles from Hollywood to Long Beach. Not in my P-car. If I had that today, I would have gotten a motel room for the night rather than go less than 10 MPH for miles on end. ![]() |
