I think the California Title would have SALVAGE on it in big print towards the top.

it has a title named vehicle history and it is blank ...the actual mileage states 86033 MI and it states actaul mileage....hmmm i didnt realize az and califnornia were different i assumed that all titles from all states would say if its salavage or not and give cost of car when first registered

You might want to call the California DMV. 1-800-777-0133
I think CA salvage titles might be a different color now, and do not say SALVAGE on them. When you find out, please post your findings.

Do not hold me to this, (check for yourself), but I am almost certain that: 1) vehicles older than 10 years are exempt from mileage disclosure, (how old is that title?), and 2) vehicles past a certain age cannot be "salvaged" on the title.
Check on these and get back to us, will you? I'm pretty sure that I am right here and it would be valuable info for the archives. TIA. ![]()

may not mean anything...when you change states it is fairly easy to "clean" the title.
A PPI from a good shop and a good body shop should be able to tell you about previous crash damage. |

I'm looking at the Title (Pink Slip) for my daughters 2000 model year car which came in the mail today and I know its clean. It says nothing in the upper right red lined box which has above it "Vehicle History" MikeZ is right, if it doesn't say salvage in there, its clean.

Ok cali Title holders
I just got off the phone with the cali dmv. My car checked out no salvage on on the california title but it doesnt mean the prevoius state had a salvage title. The title has yet to go to micro film so that is the reason the agent couldnt give me a diffenent answer. She gave me a # to call were i could find out if the car had a salvage title from the state it came from. I will be calling that # tommorrow when i have free minutes on my cell. someone posted 2 questions here are the answers,
1) vehicles older than 10 years are exempt from mileage disclosure...the agent said this was a true statement!....yikes? is that scare or what? now i am wondering if my car has 86k or 186k? maybe when i give a call tommorrow i will know? 2)) vehicles past a certain age cannot be "salvaged" on the title? this statement is false ..she said all vehicles that are salvaged will be stated under salvage only way to get a salvage car to clear is to fix all damage and present to DMV with proof the car is fixed. even with this the car with have a restored title next to clear indicating it has been fixed. 3)I think CA salvage titles might be a different color now, and do not say SALVAGE on them. When you find out, please post your findings. This is false titles are not color coded for clear or salvage its best to call the dmv to find out like i am. I will not be posting the title due to the owners name still on the title and its his address not mine. These statements are meant for california only if you have further questions please contact your own dmv. One thing that i must note is when i looked at the Idaho Dmv site(owner stated the car was from there) they have hit something on the nail if you go to this link http://www2.state.id.us/itd/dmv/online_services.htm you can do driver's license record (DLR) and motor vehicle record (MVR) searches, temporary trip permits. The key owrd being MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD SEARCHES. I wish all sates would do that, i didnt do a search because the only drawback is you pay a $75 annual fee for this... |

Re: California owners question on car title?
Run a 'CarFax' (www.carfax.com) for $19.99 or a 'Experian' (www.experian.com) for $4.99, and they should show any 'weird' history. I just did a Experian on a '87 911 and it was very good.
