When you're filling this tank up, will the fuel fill right up to the top of the neck?

It was about 11" (28cm). I don't know the exact measurements.

I welded it extra long into the tank shut the hood and scribed a flush line around it and made the first cut.

I then measured the extra height of the cap and mount, transferred that to the neck and removed it. Then I tacked the mount in place until it was correct and welded it up.

It was all done using the eyeball ruler.

I have a 260mm tube and cap, and wondered if it would be tall enough

I will measure when I get home tonight and give you a better idea of the actual height. I sank some of the tube into the tank.

any updates?

There have not been too much progress the past few weeks. Its 26 F with wind chills in the teens. Too cold to be outside without a garage.

Recent progress: Two weeks ago I started putting my doors together. They now latch, close, lock, and have working window regulators with no glass. I made all my lexan side windows and have them ready to install pending arrival of my new U-channel felt and some misc. seals.

Of couse, its hard to manipulate small bolts with thick gloved hands. Ahh to be in CA or down south.

Other problems I have encountered are with the installtion of a late motor with early oil tank. I have a solution (Thanks Tyson) but have yet to implement it.

I like the work you're doing. Especially the "spray paint down the neck to mark".

Something to keep in mind in other states. Inspection includes the pressure/vacuum testing of the cap and the use of a plug to insure that a Leaded Gasoline nozzle will not fit into the neck.

I have to say, that is one of the cooler mods I have seen; alot of craftsmanship involved.

Speaking of welding gas tanks I must relay a story from my youth that I shall never forget. Harry Homeowner one block down from us had his Chevy Impala wagon almost totaled in an accident. he decides to pocket the cost of the repair and fix himself.

Started welding around the the tank and it was loaded with fumes evidently and kaboom. Sent him to the hostpital for the better part of 6 months. The welding wand was actually imbedded in his forehead according to neighborhood lore...bad luck I guess.

It was quite the incident in the neighborhood as I recall. We moved before I ever saw the guy again but I could only imagine what he looked like after that.
