Pin connector in engine compartment

Hi difficult is it to replace the male side of the pin connector on a 77 911. Does the plastic piece pop out or does the whole panel have to be replaced?

Thanks,

David

The 14 pin connector? Did it break?

You can order a new one. the connector can be pushed to the left and then it should come off of the panel. Then take a srew driver to take off the back shell and remove the pins to the new connector.

Be very careful not to get the pins mixed up. You might want to write down all the wire colors and locations down before you remove the pins, and a picture never hurts as a backup.

A couple pins are a real mess. A mechanic told me to fix it. Push to the left. I will give it a try. Any soldering? How bad if I keep the wires in order?

Thanks Doc.

You may need to push in a little to get to slide left but that should do it. If you only have a couple bad connections then you don't need a new one. Remove the old wires from the pins (one at a time), cut the bad part off and resolder. You can get new pins if you need to. The wire goes though the side of the pin and you flow solder from the top. You'll understand when you see it.

Be very careful not to cut more than you have to or the wire wont reach the pin and you will be stuck rewiring the whole thing.

Wow wow wow

Where do you order the connector housing??? I need a 6-pin female housing (on the car side, not the wire harness side) at the front of the engine compartment.

If you have to solder in the new pin you'll have to hold your lips just right and some surgical tools help a lot also. It's not a lot of fun. If it's the yellow wire that has two in it it's even more fun.

Thank you Ryan for the part number of the connector housing. I ordered one from Porsche ($17), it came today, and was the perfect fit for my broken connector. If anybody else needs this part number, it is 911 612 868 01 (housing with pins supplied)

Thanks again. Even the Porsche dealer could not find this number.

Cool! I'm glad it worked out for you. Sometimes you just need to be a little creative, the dealer isn’t big on that.
