need help!
 

My Friend and mechanic is finally getting around to doing my rear suspension at his shop, and we've got a problem.

He's working on my RS clone, I have sway-away adjustible rear swing arms and neither he nor I can locate any new bushings for these things! I tried our host (first of course) and placed an order for them last night only to get a message this morning that they were "indefinately" on back order! RATS!

My car has been at my buddies shop for 2 months waiting for him to work on it and now that he is we are stalled due to a lack of parts availability!

So, my question is does anyone have a source for these? They have a different diameter than the OEM units so I can't go that route... What other choices is there?

This is strictly a track car.

How about going with stock adjustable and getting Chuck's poly bronze bushings. To the best of my knowledge, the only advantage of a sway-a-way springplate is that it has "more" adjustability. But, the stocks allow an inch, so I'm not sure why you would need more than that. You can sell the sway-a-aways to someone who's not in such a rush. They can get the bushings when they come off of BO status.

Thanks CHILI, I thought about that as an option, a VERY expensive one though. It would be a tough sell to the little woman, who watches my racing budget like a hawk.

Luckily I found what may turn out to be the last set on the west coast at Parts Heaven in Hayward. Price was a little more than Pelican, but hey, at least they had one set available!

I find it a little absurd that these adjustable spring plates are so widely available (complete with bushings) and yet no replacement bushings are to be had for them... Sounds like someone wants to sell a lot more spring plates @ $300 a pair than the bushings to keep them working @ $50 a set...

I'd bet that the bushings are the same size.

Are you saying that you think the OEM spring plate bushings and the Weltmeister bushings are the same size? They most definately are not (inner dimension). My mechanic bought poly bushings for an OEM spring plate and they would not fit the Weltmeister spring plates without being widened to 2".

And Chuck's poly bronze bushings (which look sweet!) said nothing about fitting anything other than the OEM spring plate, which by the way seems like a business oppertunity if you ask me. Why not make one to fit the Weltmeister spring plates?

I probably would have bought them from Chuck if they would have worked with my spring plates.

I highly doubt this is the reason.

Looks like I lost the bet on them being the same size. If you had poly bushings already then why not just make the id larger to fit?

Easy, simple math:

drill press + 2" forstner bit + poly bushing = screwed up poly bushings.

After doing this math and figuring I would wank up AT LEAST one of the bushings (they are only sold in sets) I thought it would be better to just buy the right bushings. Now that's where things went bad and I started to panic that the "right" bushings just weren't available. Lucky for me Parts Heaven came through :D

LOL! Well, you certainly explored all avenues didn’t you? I was thinking more along the lines of a lath but it might be tricky to chuck up. Glad to hear you found some, good luck!

With my car being in the shop for so long I am really having withdrawls, need to here that engine scream. Now that my buddy has started work on her I can't stand the thought of anything delaying the march of progress. But I guess that's what I get for "free" service :D
