Has anyone done the bolt on flares..
I have seen this done in pictures a few times but never in real life. How does it look in person and how did you attach the flare (ie. bolts, rivots, super glue
). I always see a pic in excelence of a silver 993 with huge bolt on flares, front and back. I love the look.

I've thought of doing this to convert my SC into a widebody. But I would like to see a write up or how to before I start going Mike Z. with my sawzall.

I was at Jerry Woods Enterprises last weekend for the tune-up class, and we actually adjusted some of the valves on the blue and beige car in the second picture, and I can testify that it does look pretty cool, in a rough race car body work kind of way. If I recall the connectors are rivits, and the fit and finish are pretty good. But we are talking about a dedicated track car and not a nicely finnished street rod.
I have some more photos of this and some of the other treasures in that garage that I have been planning on posting...

I'm having the clubsport flares put on my 993 right now.
I chose to use Camlocs to attach the fenders (for the 1/4 turn quick release function) Heres a pic of the Camlocs w/adjustable receptacles. ![]() I'll post more pics of the process as the bodywork progresses.

I noticed that most of the 996 racecars have flares that are attached to the body but there is no external hardware. Anyone have an idea how to attach a carbon fiber flare to a car without being able to see the bolts or rivots?

You could use a form of epoxy. I used it to attach my curved upper wing to carbon fiber uprights.
The bond between the clearcoated wing and the resin in the carbon fiber is quite strong.

TerryBPP,
There is a special kind of glue made just for this purpose. A guy I know glued fiberglass flares to his BMW 2002 with it. Then the whole (empty) chassis was lifted off the ground by 4 guys holding one flare each. A good auto body shop will be able to tell you the name of the glue. Pretty expensive stuff though, I heard it was around $150 - $200/4 flares. But that was a few years ago, maybe it's cheaper now. Remember to drill out any rivets or screws after the glue has dried. If you leave them in there the body filler and paint will eventually crack in those areas.
