Autozone has them. They call it (oddly) an internal wrench set. I can look up the part # if you want.

I got mine at a local VW high performance shop.

Bernie,
Crawl under there and make sure you need it. Many cars of our vintage have already had their CV's repacked and the bolts changed to allen style. Our host has the socket if needed.

Auto parts stores carry them in their Lisle tool catalog or the K-D tools. Actually they are common in a lot of stores.

First make sure that you need them.

Good luck,

At Autozone, the brand is OEM and the part number is 25015. That's for a set of four -- 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm triple square drives. You'll need a 1/2" socket to use with them.

Isn't "12 points" another name for them. Got them at AutoZone.

i called 4 autozones and none had them in stock... ended up going to Murry's Discount Auto... woooo hoooo. holiday traffic sucks... but being in the city, i have 20 auto stores in a 3 mile radius.

I'm sure I need them because the new axles i ordered also come with new bolts with that type socket required.

I'll admit, sometime aquiring tools stumps me... its not like hardware stores carry good tools. Going to Sears is a pain as you wait 20 minutes to find someone to unlock the 'case', only to find the don't have the right metric tool... ordering online is tough if your current project suddenly calls for a new tool.

thanks for the suggestions and letting me vent. ;)

They are also called "ribe" sockets.
