Parts question (clutch cable)..

Getting ready to replace my clutch cable on the CAB. Besides a new helper spring, anything else I should get, related to the job?

I have the tools, it has fresh Swepco, bronze bushings in the pedal cluster, new shift coupler and lever bushings.

Looking foward to no more grinding!

Matt,

You always need to have the clevis and pin/locking clip on hand ... just in case!

Sometimes a new eyelet for the clutch pedal lever is needed, or a welded or brazed repair of the lever ... then it's pedal bushing time, and a bit longer delay and working time than planned, ALWAYS!!! Another case/corollary of the 'As Long As ... ' Syndrome!

Be sure you get a German made cable - either a Genuine Porsche cable, or one made by GEMO (cable manufacturer in Berlin). The Italian copies are crap.

You really ought to pull that pedal rack and rebuild it with fresh brass bushings. The difference is AMAZING! When you first put your foot on the clutch pedal you'll swear you forgot to hook up the cable it is soooooo smooth.

If you do rebuild the rack, be sure to purchase a new rubber stop for the floorboard.

Thanks guys.

The bushings are pretty new, Chuck put them in when he owned the car.

As for the cable, I ordered it from Pelican yesterday afternoon, so what they send is what I get. I'm sure it is a quality item though. Never had a problem with parts from Wayne. But I have from other suppliers.

I just finished this job, and thought I would put a few items that I wish I would have ordered on here, if anyone ever finds themselves in the same situation, and poses the qusestion.

First, all the circlips for the clutch arm and helper spring shaft. Then all the other little bits that go with it, washers, a seal, heck even the shaft proabably, and the seal on the bottom.

I didn't end up needing it, but I would suggest also getting a new clevis and locking pin. And if you don't already have them, new bronze pedal bushings.
