Congrats. YOu earned it and will be much happier. See I told you it'd pay off. I agree with everyone so far - lose the tail. You should redo the wheels so only the paddles are light colored as well. A helluva a car. Have fun. :cool:

Nice car! Good color if you have a little rust, it can get "lost" in the finish. Try looking at Kumho tires, great price and very good quality.

Check the paint code on the drivers door jam were it hindges. I show a burgandy red (017) for 1970 and from aug. 70 onward a burgundy ( 2424)
Also FWIW 1970 was the last year according to my info that the model designation was put on the dash, Cool Stuff.

I would backdate those mirrors back to original, but that's just me. Beautiful car, don't take any smack for it being Burgundy.

You car appears to be pretty "customized". Along with the other items mentioned, I don't think the rear reflector was standard in 70 either. Don't worry about any of it. Your car looks great. Get the relays and your shimmy worked out and just enjoy it.

By the way, I've had my car for 8 years and still wonder how the heater controls really work.

Very nice car Matt, cool color very period. In my opinion.....loose the tail and put the correct mirrors back on. I personally perfer the stock look on earlier cars. Anyway congrats and start enjoying your new find! Like the others said....watch the tires...get new ones ifin you can, it will make a world of difference.;)

Lose the rear reflector, yes (if in good shape, sell it on the classifieds board and pic up a rear decklid and correct licence plate section.

Tires: Yoko AVS 100s. I wouldn't drive 10 miles on hard tires.

Why that's the keypad for my navigation system Steve, it was standard on the T for '70. Also controls the autopilot.
Actually it's the remnant of the old ghetto a$$ alarm system, no doubt it's hacked into my wiring in more places than I'll ever find, but I haven't got that far. I'd pull it, except they drilled through the dash, so I think I'll keep the keypad.

I had one of those installed in my 84. I can't tell you how cathartic it was to rip out probably 20 yards (I'm not kidding) of crap wiring running everywhere!

After I found, tested and clipped each wire, I tested the car to start.

Second to last wire was hooked into the heater fan. Last wire was hooked into the fuel pump ground. After clipping and cleaning, I now have a male/female spade at the corner of the fuse box which when disconnected... no fuel.

That is one of the few nice things about NE winters: required downtime allows to play guilt free.

I may have a good left dash control cover from a 71. If you want it, let me know.

Don't be so hasty about referring to that alarm system as "ghetto." I thought I recognised it and sure enough I found a picture that could have been a duplicate of your car on page 42 of the "Porsche Owner's Companion." You have the Clifford alarm system and to quote from the book "The Clifford may be among the most expensive theft deterrent systems obtainable. It is also among the best." It would appear that some previous owner didn't mind spending some bucks on a decent alarm system.

yeah, my '87 had the same alarm. That seemed to be standard issue for 911s for quite a few years.

btw, no worries with a 20' car...that's the way a lot of the drivers are.

How about in another 23 years? It took me 23 years to get this car, so I figure to get a 3.6 that would cost roughly the same as my purchase price, if not more, factor in the equation of W*K(K+1) (wife * increasing kids), and yeah, I think by the time I'm 46 my car will really haul a$$. Think the prices will be lower in time for my midlife crisis?:D

Leave the alarm in if it is not causing any problems...most insurance companies will give a big discount if you have one.

That is an excellent point flintstone, I hadn't thought of that, I think it's time to give them a call. As it is, adding the T to our policy actually lowered our overall bill, so essentially they are paying me to insure my Porsche with them. I won't complain.
