3.6L guys: do you ever lie about your size?
Do you lie about your size?
On several occasions now I've waxed the tarmac with various cars, and when faced with the inevitable "What do you have in that?" question, I lied and told them it was plain stock. On one hand, it's kind fun to watch their wide-eyed wonder after they've had their doors blown off by a 25 year-old car (adds mystique to the marque!), on the other, I really don't want to tell them I've got more cash in this car than they have invested in their Camaro and their double-wide put together. I even did this at a track event a couple years ago; I drew an instructor who had an early 911, and as he's climbing in he asked about the car. I told him it was a '77 911, pretty much stock except for the flares and the muffler. Yeah, in hindsight it was probably mean, but I was at the point where I thought I was beginning to undestand track driving, and maybe a little full of myself.

Mine is stock as a rock.....I just don't them that it's power plant is stock from a heavier more modern 911. If they don't notice the 3.6 badge on the engine lid that's their problem.....

I don't have a 3.6! I would probably keep it on a shrine in the backyard. (I wish)
I really think that 90% of all those P-Car owners that I have known wouldn't know the difference. It's a porsche. David Duffield Owner of: "Poser SC" |

No, I've never lied. One guy at the track, after an embarassing session for him, asked me if I had a turbo....
One of the better (?) compliments, I suppose. And that was with the engine in stock configuration.

I'd appreciate it if you refrained from telling them it's a 3.6. You always have guys around calling themselves Porsche Killers 'cause some old fart in a 996 putted around and got "smoked," or they beat up on a 1972 T.
Tell em it's stock!

Mine's definitely stock. And thirty years old.
At least that's what I told that poor 350Z driver the other day.

Hey, When I bought my car a in Jan. of 03 the previous owner told me the car has a 993engine. So what, I thought, and didn't realize how much raw power it had until spring. Took a Vet owner for a spirited ride and he said, "WOW, I didn't Pcars were that fast." My mech took it for a ride. He pointed at another Pcar and said it was fast, then pointed at my car and said that thats just raw power.
So, there may be other people like me who have(had) no clue.

I unfortunately don't have a 3.6, but from other experience I can tell you that it doesn't much matter what you tell them, they will think what they want anyway. In highschool I had a '65 Impala with a junkyard 2 barrel 350 from a '73 something, so it was a 150 hp motor mated to a muncie 4spd and 4.11 gears. It was pretty quick due to the gears so it surprised people. Most people didn't believe it was a stock crappy motor even when I showed them. There were rumors of nitrous being fed through heater hose and run under the intake and all sorts of crazy things. I used to get a big kick out of it.

Adam Chaplin, I wish I was kidding, Tomorrow I plan to pull the left side valve covers and have a look, The motor has smoked since i got it, You just cant imagine how excited I was to be able to do this conversion, then have constant let downs, the funnel of money that i have had to put into to cure all the problems has been crazy, I dont feel that I need to go to deep into this untill I have facts or it can not be resolved, If I cant resolve it I plan to do a post about it, Kevin
