AlumiWeld

Anybody familiar with this method of welding aluminum? Does it work as advertised?

I played with a few of these types of aluminum solders, a few years ago. (for a manufacturing solution/application)

What I remember was it was a pain to apply, and a good joint had mediocre (at best) strength.

So, no; does NOT work as advertised. .. they're really reaching on that website.

If you need just strength, then there are some great aluminum adhesives. If you need electrical conductivity. . . I should just ask, What do you need?

For any patchwork...including a crankcase for an outboard motor...I have used Devcon K.
It may not be the best or the easiest to apply...but it seems to do the job.
The outboard BTW had a big hole in the side and was put back together like a jig saw puzzle (it surprised me by holding for more than a year of racing).

I don't have a specific use in mind right now. Although, I'd like to fab up a nice alum. fire extinguisher bracket. Just came across the product and it sounded a little too good to be true ........

Curt....that stuff is pretty weak! Won't bond at all to some alloys ('potmetal'), and can be quite porous even if it does.
If you try it, do a sample on the same material you wish to fabricate. Then, do some 'destructive testing'.

Plan 'B'....buy a TIG welder.

I have used similar stuff (not that brand name). I used it to braze pieces together to make my fuel rails

I pressure tested to 120psi with no leaks. Car has run all summer with them, without any problems.

The stuff is not the easiest to work with and requires some practise, but one can do the job. What other options do you have when welding/brazing aluminium, without spending a fortune on a TIG?

Here is a pic of the brazed fuel rail.
