Cool V12 car... Vote for it!

Some of you may know what an Ultima is. Most of you know what a McLaren F1 (road car) is. Combine the two and you get something like what is found at http://www.europeancarparts.ca . Click on the Ultima link and check out the three videos on the main page: 2 of the car on stands, and 1 of it driving. There's also lots of detail pics of the customization that has been done to the base "kit".

Quick specs: 2100 lbs, Champ car (CART) suspension (Reynard) and brakes (Alcon), magnetic adjustable Carrera shocks, BMW V12, full A/C, stereo, and 996 transaxle

The vote for it part? Well, some of you may read Sport Compact Car. They hold a shootout every year where they take 10 reader-selected cars and perform "real" tests on them, including handling, braking, road course (Willow Springs I believe), acceleration, etc. Well, my friend who built the car (Jay Esterer) has his car in the July 2003 issue with the "2Fast 2Furious" cover. It's on page 150, and the deadline for mailed entries is July 15th.

Additional P-car content: He's built an '84 911 Turbo (in Canada, so not "grey" market) with 9:1 CR, twin plug, bigger Garrett turbo, large Kohlen I/C, Carrera intake, EFI (SDS), and properly tuned with a wideband. Also, he's busy putting a 550 Speedster body on a Formula Arcobaleno, which is a single seater racecar from Italy with a 1000 cc Yamaha (148 hp, 815 lbs), so he can drive it on the street...

Enjoy!

Ok, this thread should be in the OT forum, but that car is amazing! Custom-made BBS wheels? cockpit-controled MagneShock suspension? I get the sensation that the bill for it must have been .... a lot...

About the only cheap thing in there seems to be the 500$ BMW V12...

Oh, and the link is wrong, this seems to be the correct one..

(btw i tripped on your thread while searching for SDS info )

Both links work, but the one you provided is newer and more direct.

If you pick up the latest Sport Compact Car magazine, you'll see some more pictures and details on the car. So obviously the car got voted in, and I was there for the competition back in October. It goes without mentioning that it was quite an interesting bunch of cars and people.

The results can be found in next month's edition. :-)

Ultimas were used as the mule/test bed for McLaren's brakes/suspension/engine settings. If Gordon Murray considered it good enough for that, then it seems that you can get, or build, a McLaren's peformance-matching car for a fraction of the price. I think it would cost close to 360 Stradale's price, yet embarass or at least match Enzo's pace. It's a great McLaren substitute.

Yup, that's the one. There were some cooling concerns that developed earlier, which is why the rear cowling is off in the "gross display of HP" portion.
