Early Car Clock
I finally had it with the mechanical clock in my '70T. After gettng it repaired/trying to fix it myself twice with a year, I looked into converting it to quartz. The lowest price I was able to find was around $185. Way too much for such an unimportant gauge, but us anal-retentive types do like ALL our gauges and instrument lights to work regardless of function. But if I really want the time, I just check my watch.
Anyway, I found a quartz VDO clock on EBay for the $25 that I won it for. It is exactly like my mechanical clock, same black face, white numerals and orange pointers. Only difference is that it says "quartz" in small letters below the VDO. It works just fine and should last. The only difference is that the white lettering is brighter than the rest of my 33 old instruments since this clock is from a later car.
