Heater control help needed.

I'm trying to figure out what the heater and defroster controls on the dash do. I have two on the top, one in the middle and one on the bottom. I know what the two on the floor in between the seats do, I'm just don't know about the dash controls. This car does have A/C. There is also a round four position knob on the floor next to the pull up levers, I think that it adjust the fan speed on the dash, but not sure.

Please help me
Rick

Just trying out a new scanner. These may help.

From an 86 manual. I do not have auto heat on mine, so the knob between the seats just reads 0-3, with 0 and 1 being low footwell fan speed, 2 medium and 3 high. The footwell fans do no come on unless the blower on the engine is functioning and on. All this is for my 86 Carrera, earlier cars may function differently.

That 4 position switch is for auto heat. It senses the heat inside the car and in the flapper box and automatically turns on heat. If it is broke it is cost prohibitive to repair it can easily be bypassed though. If you are having trouble with the dash controls do a search for heater controls or check a Bently manual it has a pretty good breakdown.
