Placement for CHT guage?
Has anyone modified their oil level guage (that nobody seems to use) to serve as either a CHT guage or a voltmeter? I would think that either would be much more useful than the oil level guage. I'm just consitering places to put a CHT guage and this seems to be the best for at least a stock look in an early 911.

I use my oil level gauge every time I drive the car. I replaced the clock that I never looked at with a CHT gauge.

Rob,
I consitered that but since my clock actually works and this isn't a racecar (a sunny day driver) I'd like to keep my clock.

whoa! your clock works!?! Lucky B@&t@rd! Truth be told, mine works to, it keeps perfect time... in some alternate universe.
forgive my ignorance but, What is CHT?

A CHT is a cylinder head temperature guage. After killing my old truck by over heating and my 911 by overheating I'm pretty paranoid about loosing my fan belt.

Can someone tell us how much they cost, and where do you mount the sensor? I'd (most likely) put an auxillary gauge in my car (and include a few other gauges) instead of replacing the oil level...

I saw a dual CHT gauge on westach.com
They make gauges for aircraft and have a lot of combination gauges. I have their A/F meter that was resold by CB Performance. You could use the Oil level gauge if you can get a sender to match the gauge. You could probably repaint the scale on the face. The gauge should just be an Ohm meter it reads the variable resistance. I learned a technique off the VDO site to check the resistance limits of the gauge. I did it for my oil pressure gauge. (I am planning to use the oil pressure gauge temporarily to watch my fuel Control Pressure for testing.) I found a universal sender that matched the scale and Ohm range for the gauge. I'm pretty sure it works the same for the tempature gauge A varible resistor.

I believe most people put them on the intake studs and they cost between $80-$100. Pelican has them along with that "shiny" catalog.

How about just a big light?
I've seen that somewhere.

I had this mounted on the console. It is a gauge that I had to monitor constantly in mountain areas, or comming into lala land on I-5 from the north hills in 5th at 65mph, or above 4k rpm in desert heat in 5th gear, etc.
Otherwise not necessary for routine low end street driving. ![]()
