Warm start problems no more!
New to the Porsche game with an 83SC cab. I was having a warm start problem over the last month and it was frustrating me. I searched this board and ordered Wayne's 101 book. I came to the conclusion that the Fuel Accumulator had seen its last days.
I ordered one from PP and received it today. Out to the garage and in less than 30 minutes the new one is installed. I took the car out to warm it up a bit, shut it off and it started right up again. I ran the car at idle to get it warmer and did the same. Again, it started right up! You gents have a wealth of information and it is appreciated that you share it. Keep the info flowing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, David

How did you isolate the accumulator vs. the check valve?

Good deal David, I know we talked about it when I was over there but it was just limited to possibilities, not an accurate diagnosis.
So, did you actually nail it down first or just make a lucky guess? ![]() BTW my hot start problem was the accumulator too. I found that out after changing my check valve and injectors ![]() |

Yup, I have a new accumulator in my garage ready to go into my CIS based Mercedes. This is one of the most common poor warm start causes on these cars.

I made an educated guess because of the symptoms. The car started fine when cold, but once it was warm, I had to crank it over 5-6 times in intervals to get it started.
Based on the exterior condition of the accumulator, I guessed that it had never (or not recently) changed. Others on the board with similar problems fixed theirs with the replaceement. If this did not solve my problem, the check valve was next. I know that it is cheaper to start with the check vavle, but the accumulator looked like King Kong chewed on it. It had to go!

Well this is my 2 cents ...I went to the accumulator as the first guess of TS. That was $100+ and it was still hard starting when hot after I replaced the accumulator. I did some real soul searching and reading and bought a check valve for the fuel pump and after replacement it was cured from the problem. Now looking back the check valve was 30bucks and if I would have went for the cheap fix first and worked my way up the scale ...I would be 100+ richer today.

Hot or Warm start problem, Bob?
The Accumulator is typically implicated with a warm start issue, not hot.

It was hard starting after running for some time ....what do you call that? I live in Phoenix so I guess it is called hot start.

The accumulator looked like it had never been changed. I decided to change it first, although the cheaper of the two would have been the check valve. Although in SoCal it gets hot, the past few weeks have been in the 60's. I don't know if that would be considered a "hot" start or a "warm" start problem. Either way, the problem is a distant memory.
Merry Christmas, David
