Need help: Oil Line. Why doesn't this PP replacement part fit?
 

I'm replacing my Oil line from Engine Pipe to Thermostat (part No. C-107-743-10 ).

And I can't get it installed without getting a kink in the rubber and restricting oil flow.

I set the replacement next to the original and the metal tubing of the replacement part is about an inch longer than the original; the rubber tubing is about an inch longer than original as well. Making the entire thing about 1.5 to 2 inches too long.

What's going on here? Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it??

occasionally i have had to twist/tweek the end of the engine oil pipe to relate to the side oil hose better. the replacement hoses do come a bit longer now, for some reason. twisting the threaded end upward, or bending it to the rear a bit is necessary sometimes to avoid a kink in the rubber part. a large 18" crescent wrench works well to angle it upward.

Well, it sounds like I've received a manufacturing defect and have a good one on the way.

I am sure Tom is more than busy and very capable of answering every ??? asked...But by Bob asking here on the board, we all learn..........

I had a similar problem with a '72 chassis... and a '70 engine...

They didn't have to recreate the wheel.... it just took a little insight from some seasoned individuals...

What was the final outcome? I just received the identical part yesterday and quickly concluded that something was strangely amiss. Without performing some strange contortions to the line, this part number (C-107-743-10) will not fit without kinking the flexible portion of the line.

The replacement part on my car was also 2 inches longer. Did not fit at all. I did not want to wait for the replacement so I cut off the offending section, remove the crim, and put the hose back on with 2 hose clamps. It works, doesnot leak.

Don't know why the replacement hose is always 1-2 inches longer. Can't these manufacturers measure the right length?

i got the same part and everything worked out okay. you get the kink when the line is twisting. you cant tighten it up at the tstat all the way and then move to the crossover tube. you have to leave both sides loose and then wrench on both sides evenly so that you are not twisting it. i found it easier that way. then after awhile the hose just settles into the position that it is supposed to be and then i get ugly with wrenches.

The part I received was definitely a defect and no amount of twisting was going to make it better.

yelcab1, I appreciate a good DIY on new parts (I did alot of that kind of work on my old VW bug when I got parts from Brazil). But, when I buy stuff for my 911 and it comes from Germany, I expect a high level of quality for prestige-priced items.

This sounds like this problem is becoming more common for this part in particular.

Right on Speed! (Bob) DIY is fine but when you pay premium prices for parts from Germany I expect the thing to fit exactly, right out of the box, and be of high quality to boot.

I know, but what do you do when you just don't want to wait anymore?

Brought a relay (from our host) for my A/C with the PORSCHE PACKAGING and it had MADE IN CHINA on it.

I think a lot of the PORSCHE PARTS for older cars (even though they are packaged as Genuine Porsche Parts) are now made in CHINA.

I do what you do. But that is still what I EXPECT. Life is hard sometimes...

You're right, it may have come from China. It would be nice to know where parts are coming from (actually, I think that for relays, PP gives us a choice whether we want $$German made$$ or India/China).

But, I was happy with PP's response -- I received the replacement (that fit correctly) within 24 hours of determining that it was a defect.

I get this a lot. We have no real control over where the parts are manufactured. Bosch does not make too many of their parts anymore in Germany - many of them are farmed out to other countries (like China). Not much I can to about this, if there is only one manufacturer for the part, and it's now only made in one country...

The quality of 3rd world countries varies widely, depending upon how much you want to pay. I would hope that Bosch would have the same quality control concerns on parts whether they were made in China or Germany. I for one have not seen an increase of returns, etc. from parts specifically made outside of Germany. However, I don't active track this information either...

Were the oil lines for a Turbo longer? If so, maybe someone at the mfr plant got things mixed up a bit.
