Antenna replacement
I am looking to replace the antena on my 77 911. It is bent and reception seems to be very weak. I have bought a Hirschman replacement but I have been unable to remove the old antenna. Does the top cap unscrew? There seems to be two slots on either side and before I twist and do something I regret I thought I'd ask. Has anyone replaced their original before?

The exposed nut at the base of the antenna (obviously) unscrews. The tricky part, at least for me, was realizing that the thing that the nut threads into ALSO unthreads before you can pull the antenna unit out of the fender. I'm sure there is a special tool to turn it but some very delicate work with a small vice grip worked for me.
