Removing Fender Antenna; Replacing W/ Glass Antenna.

A friend of mine has a 76 Turbo, He’s removed the fender antenna. Can this be replaced with a later model glass Antenna? Like one from an 80’s Carrea. If so, how difficult is this procedure?

The glass Antenna can be used. It does not work as well as the fender unit though. Would require replacement of the window as well as the seal. This is would be an ideal time to fix any surface rust behind the seal. If you get a new window, there are several grades available. The best ones we have used have been of the premium grade that comes complete with the review mirror button glued on to the windwhield.

I did this on my 84 when I had the car painted, I just told the body shop to fill in the hole. you will also need an antenna booster it hooks between the radio and the windshild.

Is the antenna booster a Porsche part? Will will any antenna booster work?

I did this on my 84 as well, it definitely cleans up the appearance. Antenna booster can be found at Parts Heaven or other Porsche yard. Important note, the small black wire is a hot lead.

I disagree that the antenna in windshield will give you poorer reception, at least on the east coast. I never have a problem picking up stations in Seek or manual tune mode when driving to NY or up to NH and I have just a decent Eclipse for a head unit.
