Lets not forget the 914 carried Porsche during 1970 through 72 racing years. had Porsche choosen to improve it instead of continually detune it, it might well be the 914 Carrera Gt.

It might technically be a Targa, but it was designed to look like a coupe. Porsche knew if they wanted to sell them, it had better look like a coupe.

Technically, 911's are the only targas, I believe 914's and the Carrera GT are considered roadsters.

The factory teams 911's got there butts kicked by the non factory team 914's. the 914 just about swept everthing during those years in the gt class.
Enough couldnt be said about the greatness of the 917 thats another story.
Heres a link to 914 race wins 1970 - 1972

I always thought the Carrera GT looked like a really small car. Until I saw it next to the 908/3, that is ...... !!!
