Power Window Slow When Wet
 

My passenger power window rolls down v-e-r-y slowly - or barely at all - after it has rained (when I see water filmed on the glass), and somewhat slowly when it is dry - slower than the driver's window, anyway. It rolls up fine. I guess I need to take the door apart. Is this a common problem with a well-known solution, so that I could order the parts before I get the door open? I did a search but found naught.

Must be a short. My driver's side window has always worked perfectly until the last rain - and then it wouldn't at all. You probably will need to pull the switch, dry it thoroughly and then replace it with electrical tape or something wrapped around the electrical connectors. Reminds me, I need to go fix mine. The slow window may be due to worn contacts and may need replacement or take the switch apart and sand the contacts.

a felt change might help, because the felt wears off the bottom of the channel and the glass drags on the rubber base.

for the felt change, do you just pry up the metal outer trim to then get it out? I have the same issue with my driver's side window, and the felt/rubber swap is a cheap test, but as I recall the Bently wasn't very specific on how to get it out and the new one back in.

Are they glue-in? I have some Wurth rubber cement, hope that works.

Guess I'll go find some decent speakers for the doors, might as well replace the old ones (made from coffee filters and refrigerator magnets, I think) while I'm in there. And a door stay reinforcement kit for the passenger door.

I'm gonna go a different direction than you guys on this one.

It doesn't add up that parts on the passenger window would wear out before the driver window which gets much more use.

Therefore, I don't think the felt is the problem, in as much, as there is probably more felt left on the passenger window than on the drivers window.

Also, bad switches are usually intermittant not slow. If the switch was intermittant then I would say it is from lack of use and the contacts were dirty but this isn't the case.

I think the problem is the grease for the raising mechanism that the glass rides on is dirty, damp and gummed up from lack of use. That lube gets like taffy when it gets dirty,wet and cold.

Well, maybe I'll replace the felt (belt) and relube (suspenders). What kind of lube does it use? Will regular black lithium grease - what you use for bearings - do?

I think Porsche just used axle grease in the old days but I guess today it would be black lithium grease. Moly-lube with graphite (engine assembly lube) would probably work alright as well.

the window frame is also in/out adjustable. I loosen the frame and move the window up/down to settle the glass and frame alignment.. then tighten up

I was going to ask a similar question. My passenger side window goes down fast but goes up slowly. It starts up fast then appears to bind about 3/4 up. Mine seems to get worse with the onset of cold weather. I'll try John's felt replacement and also check the alignment.
