3.6 RPM surge on startup

When I start the car, the rpm's will often shoot up to 3k and drop back to idle very quickly. Doesn't do it all the time, and sometimes not all the way to 3k. Will do it even with the engine warm. Any ideas?

Mine does it a bit. I think its b/c of the lightweight flywheel. The stock flywheel was heavy.

Check the idle solinoid on the right (passanger) side of the throttle assembly. Maybe it is sticking. I would think it is something in the fuel delivery system. Does the fluctuation only occur when idleing or when yyou touch the throttle? If the latter, check the throttle linkage to be sure it is not sticking. Also check the throttle return spring to make sure it is in good condition and clear of the throttle assembly.
Hope this helps.

Paul,

It happens when I first start the car...without even touching the throttle. Throttle action seems fine. Mostly concerned about it hitting 3k when starting from stone cold.

I've been lurking here and there just so I don't miss out on anything good. With work, the holidays and all my other projects I've only had time to stop by and read a few threads now and then. Can't wait to see and hear the new beast.
