CV Joint Gaskets

I called our gracious host to order some CV joint gaskets & was a bit annoyed that the shipping charges were as much as the parts. So I thought I'd call the dealer & save myself some time. I mean really how much more could they possible want, Pelican is asking $1.25. I called up the local dealer gave her a part # & she told me she'd have to order them (of coarse). I asked her how much & she told me $14.85, I asked "For all four?", she replied "No, a piece." WTF, I am an idiot to have wasted time calling the dealer. I promptly called back Pelican & ordered the gaskets, & threw in some Swepco CV lube to help me feel better about the shipping.

You can cut them out of gasket paper. Works great, costs <$1. Just takes a bit of time.

The gaskets come with the new boots I found out this AM from JohnW. If you are doing the CVs, you might be in need of boots, and if so, there are your gaskets!

Paul: I am just about to regrease my CVs now that I've found the proper Valvoline 985 Synth/Moly. What's interesting is that, on one joint, the darn balls fell out. Now some folks told me "That's it - order new" but I am told otherwise as well - that the CVs are quite saveable even with the balls falling out via worn edges.

So I will be regreasing these puppies and painting the shaft, etc. New boots all around, 8Mx50 and Schnorr washers to boot.

Dealer prices

I check brake pad prices at the dealer, 3X on PP.

Screws for the door panels and bracket for Cat heat shield were very reasonable.

Porsche Crest Pelican-

I had to do it too recently, I just grouped a few small orders into one, then I went with Wayne and the boys-

Also, I find that USPS shipping is cheapest for me on this stuff.

We call that "P-car tax". :-) As much as everyone trys, you can minimize it by going through people like Pelican but you can never seem to totally dodge it.

I had a buddy of mine in the parts business price those gaskets for me just last week, and full retail on them is about $15.00 each! Highway robbery for sure....
