If you really think about it..yes...tight vs loose valves affects timing. Think of all the pieces that move around ( and *when*), and it'll all come clear.
Don't know if the change is drastic enough to be felt, however.

THe race car gets a valve adjust every year, and since the compartment is so open, it's an easy one to learn on. Bring your coveralls this spring and we can do it together.
