how do i install rear hubs on 73

ok

got myself into a real bind, i have to move the car tommorow and it has no rear suspension. dont want to throw it on a trailer on the body so...

how do i install the rear hubs on to the trailing arms.

pound them on with a hammer? anyone?

If you try to hammer the hub in, you'll knock the inside part of the bearing out of the trailing arm, making it useless for even just moving the car. What you'd need to do is press the hub in with a bearing press, supporting the back of the bearing (NOT the trailing arm.) Then install the stub axle and nut to hold the whole thing together.

Are the trailing arms already on?

Option #2 to get you out of your jam is buy 2 big casters from Home Depot or your FLHS, and put them on a 2x6, then bolt that across the trans mount. Would probably be faster and easier.

thanks, i thought about welding some jack stands to a set of car dollies i had but decided against it.

i ended up welding a nut onto a 1/2 threaded rod and using a couple large sockets to pull the hubs into the bearings with a socket and wrench, i must say it was so much easier than loading the car onto the trailer by myself.

oh and the motor blew up in my tow vehicle when i got the car back home so you win some and you lose many more i guess.
