Need Tires? What should i get!!
 

I have BF Goodrich Euro, 205 60R 15's stated on the tires.

I need to replace these guys any recommendation!

BTW, I bought S-03's for my 86 after RoninLB told me how great his were, and couldn't be happier.

Depends on your use...street, track, combo, dry only, wet & dry, snow, mud-bogging...you get the picture.

Just last night I was talking at length with fellow Pelican marcesq about tires and I'm leaning towards putting Toyo T1-S 205/50/15s on my 73E. This car will be used on both street and track, and will be driven mostly in dry conditions; however, sometimes it may get wet.

Falken Azenis. Hands down, best 15" performance tire out there. Ask me how I know.

Very subjective and as Jim says, it depends on what you want to do with the car.

FWIW, I put a set of Kumho HK11's on our Volvo T-5 and have been really pleased. As of now, I plan to put them on the '70E the next time I need tires, size 205/60X15.

I've ridden with emptyo and man those Falken Azenis STICK! I have Yokohama ES100s now but when they are gone, I'm planning on getting the Falkens.

Hey Jim, or anyone for that matter, will 205/50s 15 fit on a 15x6s on a longhood? I have 205/ 60 15s now that are shot, I'm in the same boat a jwernquist. I'd been leaning towards Yoko AVS dB S2, they're about $70 each from tire rack, but backordered until Jan 15. I need all season tires since the cars my driver, so that somewhat limits my choices. How are the Falkens from a daily driver standpoint, noise and ride related?

The Azenis will fit fine on 6" wheels. I'm running 6's and 7's on my car. They are hellaciously grippy in the dry, and very grippy in the wet as well. In fact, last season we had a really wet rain event, and I swapped my Hoosier race rubber back to the Azenis, and kicked ass. The noise/ride issue is similar to any other high performance tire. You wouldn't want them in the snow, though...so I wouldn't call them "All Season" in any regard.

The S-03 doesn't come close from a performance standpoint, but might be more versatile from an all season standpoint...I'm not sure about that. Another option you might think of is the new Kumho MX. I haven't tried them yet, but was thinking of it for my next set of rubber.

Toyo RA1. Once you go R you can't go back :)

Plan is to use as daily driver in the fall and winter to naturally shave them down for DEs come Spring and Summer.

So far, they handle the Seattle rain just as well as the SO3 and are much sticker in the dry.

What effect does going to a 205/ 50 or 55 have on gearing and your speedometer reading, as well as handling? That opens up some options, such as the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 that aren't avaliable in a 60. I'm not sure if that's an all season tire though.

Surely someone with a longhood can help out a little here. If you run 205/ 60 x15, it gives you a sidewall heighth very close to that of the factory spec size, but if you go to a 205/ 55 or 50 you go to a progressively shorter sidewall, therefore giving you a smaller diamater wheel/ tire combo, right? What effect does this have on gearing, acceleration, gas mileage, handling, ride quality, etc.? I know there's a lot on tires to search, trust me I've looked, but I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. Going to a 55 opens up a lot more tires, most of a higher speed rating, with 60s you're pretty limited.

The 50's will affect your gearing...in a good way. Acceleration is improved, for sure. My speedo is now 10MPH off, but as long as you know what it is, it'f fine. I would think gas mileage would be a bit affected as well...mine's not so good. But...one drive in the twisty Rocky Mtns. behind my house, and all is well in the world.

funny this should come up as I am needing to buy tires myself. I had a hell of a time finding 205-60-15 in any high perf tire. The best I could find was Yoko EVS at $77 ea. plus about $10.00 a tire for shipping. I am using the stock rims on my 70 S at 5" wide X 15. I too was wondering how a 50 or 55 aspect tire would work and how it would effect the gearing, performance and of course look on my basically stock car.

Falkens can be good but are not consistant tires, IMO. I have had 2 sets. Loved the 1st set, tuned the 2nd set back in when we could not get 2 of the tires to balance, even after force balancing. You are limited with 15's. Toyo is a very consistant tire. I would go 16s and get the Bridgestone SO3's. Terrific tire for street that works very well on the track.
