'76 Carrera 2.7
In 1976 Porsche made an additional 123 Carrera 2.7 cars, mostly I believe for club racers. I recently saw an ad for one of those cars. The VIN is 9116609119. Does anyone (GeorgeK) know if these '76 cars all had the '9' digit in the 7th spot? The motor number is interesting also, it is 6668145. I have never seen the '8' digit in the 4th spot, has anyone else or is this a typo?
Here is a photo of the car. What I think is interesting is all the bright work present on a car well past 1973. ![]()

Only the 2.7 had the 9
I show only the 2.7 had the 9 in that spot, what are they asking for the car?

Hi Brian,
I know that the early SC's had chrome trim, so I don't think its surprising that this 76 has it as well.

Michael,
Thanks for checking. I was pretty sure they all had a '9' in the VIN. Sure don't know about the '8' in the motor #. The ad only listed P.O.A., so I wrote for more info. I'll pass it along when I find out. I am curious to find out also if the owner is putting a premium on a '76 Carrera 2.7 over a previous year model. Doug, I was basing my observation other post '73' Carreras I have seen. I have seen some photos of '74 Carreras with some bright trim, but I have never seen a '75 or beyond with anything other than black trim. I never considered the SC, good observation. Thanks.

Brian - the 1976 Euro 2.7 Carreras had engine numbers beginning with:
666 8001---------> don't know about the '9' in the 7th position in the vin. As far as I remember, when the 2.7 Carrera model was introduced black trim (side window surrounds, f&r windscreen trim, door handles, etc) was an option - you could still have the 'clear' anodised aluminium trim. What you may be thinking of is the '76 Carrera 3.0 which had all-black trim. 1976 saw the introduction of the body-coloured 'elephant's ear' electric door mirror as shown in your photo - I think that colour-coded headlamp trims also became std. Andy,
Thanks for clearing up my question about the motor #'s for this car. I didn't have any reference books that listed those numbers. Also thanks for the trim info. I thought the black trim was standard by 1976, probably as you state from seeing the 3.0 Carrera. For interest sake I'll post the price and mileage if the seller responds.
