East Bay Pelicanites - found some GREAT twisties today

Spent some time with my Thomas guide yesterday and mapped out some Porsche roads.

In/around Orinda/Lafayette/Moraga -- headed out Moraga Road toward Canyon, went LEFT/south on Pinehurst Road. LOTS of twisties, though a little damp. Then left again on Redwood Rd skirting the Lake Chabot.

Not a soul on those roads until Redwood dumps into San Leandro. Then jumped on 580 to Golf Links and up to Skyline, which I took until I got back to Grizzly Peak and then back down into Orinda.

What a blast -- don't know why it took me so long to find them, but glad that I did. Anybody else have other fun drives in the East Bay?

And a Happy New Year to All!

I went to Saint Mary's College in Moraga. Worked graveyard in Oakland towing cars for OPD for the first two years of school. Used to commute that road, at night, on anything from a CB450 to a CB750 or a VW. Knew every rock slide and wet spot on every hairpin. Had to. Most of those guardrails had nasty marks on them, none from me.

Got smarter third year. Put my USCG license to work again, driving tour / ferry boats on the Bay. Did that right up to Graduation and OCS.

Loved that road. Drove it in a rental recently. Am amazed I survived that era.

If you haven't already checked out this site, you should coz its got great rides all over CA. Look up www.pashnit.com. I went for a drive on hwy 128 in Vacaville, past Lake Berryessa to Napa on Tuesday. Great roads, low traffic.

Must be the weather. Back when I was competing regularly, I drove Redwood Road between Chabot park and Castro Valley a lot. It is normally overrun with bicyclists, and also has a fairly heavy police presence.

Tom-
Thanks for the heads up about the police - I thought it might be too good to be true, so I'll keep my eyes open out there.
