Being an old motorcycle guy, I'd LOVE to flash my fellow Porsche enthusiasts (the headlight kind of flashing is what I'm talking about here). But unfortunately, in my roughly 800 miles of commuting per week, most weeks I see no Porsches whatsoever.

I think we should have a mandatory, national driver-your-Porsche day. One each week.

Always flash! But sadly most of the Boxster & 996 crowd don't understand why, nor do they know how to respond. And everytime I see someone in a 996 in the parking lot I try to start talking P-car with them. You know, questions like "What year is she?". Usually get the look one associates with bums asking for handouts.

Maybe they would be more respectful if I waved my big ass in their direction? Nothing like the rear of a Turbo to teach punks some respect!

I say that we should flash even if they won't or don't understand. Maybe it will make them think. The way I see it, I have class even if the "Coffee-drinking, Phone-talking Boxster" don't. Don't lower yourself to their level. Lets shame them into raising up.

I dont flash. This is So Cal...if I flashed at every 911, my hand would never get below my shoulders. Also... out here people will either think you are flipping them off, or depending on whereabouts you are, they will think you are gay.

I always flash boxsters and 996s......from behind, signaling them to get out of the fast lane and let a real Porsche through.

Cool

from a 6mo old thread

"
I did a big ride last year.. and I'm always looking for something to keep me going.. so one day I figure "go for it".. the old VW bug saw me crusing the left lane, they usually do look at a 911. I obviously went out of my way to slow down, pull next to him, and give him a thumbs up.. he jumped in his seat he was so happy.. tried it again/ same story.. I won't do it to the newer front engine VWs.. but when I see an air cooled real VW then

The Porsche wave and other ramblings (again)

Trader -- you make an excellent point. Given that my car is almost as old as I am (or that I am almost as young as my car, depending on how you look at it), and given that I don't have an 18yr old mistress to go with said 18yr old car, I suppose the Vette image just doesn't work. Additionally, in light of Axeman's post, I'll go back to flashing...

BTW, what do you do if a fellow P-car comes up from behind? Can't really flash 'im then, can you? You know, you're out on the freeway, and he's more confident in his electronic countermeasures suite than you are, so he's running a bit quicker. He pulls alongside, you make eye contact, and then you ____. Thumbs up as I admire his beautiful car? A quick blip of the gas to greet him with a little air-cooled roar?

Dan

I've tried the fash thing several times to all kinds of Porsches, 356's,944's, boxters's, etc and I allways get NOTHING. I drive an 81' SC everyday and allways notice other p-cars on my daily commute. I've decided not to flash anymore. I figure most Porsche owners are oblivious to the engineering and history of the cars they drive and only care about the badge and its associated "symbol of status".

I got a wave from a lady in a 993 cab the other day. Same day some kid in his mom's Buick gave me the thumbs up. I flashed at a Lamborghini the other day and was ignored. Flashed a 356 Sat. and got the wave back. Keep it alive I say.

Yes your right, that was pretty bad one. Just got all worked up over the last few experiences i've had. To make it right...yes i have had long conversations with owners of newer 996's and boxters at supermarkets, stop lights, etc...but in almost every case, these particular people had an older 911 tucked away at home. I agree in a few years these people will get bitten by the CPS (Chronic Porsche Syndrome) bug and be flashing in no time.

I usually flash the older 911s, and give a wave to other Porsches.

Since reading this thread last week, I saw a yellow 911 (I think a 996) in DC over the weekend and flashed. The guy was like WTF? I was on my way to my First World Famous NoVA engine drop so my disappointment faded fast. Guy was probably a politician or somthing.
