Dashboard Heater Control Panel

My Dashboard Heater Control Panel black plastic trim is broken. It seems that the trim piece prevents the control levers from poping out of their tracks. Is this part available or do I have to get the whole unit? (at least $400.00)
Thanks

I had the exact issue on my 78. The faceplate breaks loose from the backing mounts. I first used small screws to mount the face plate back to the dash and painted them black and it worked fine if I slid the levers very carefully. The problem was that the small nubs had worn out from popping out of the tracks over time. After putting up with that for a while I decided to replace the dash mechanism. It is one piece and includes the harness and slide levers. It is pretty difficult to swap out. I bought a used one from Dave (can't think of the company name) at 303-296-1188 for $50. It was in good shape, they strip Porsches to make race cars, and they had a bunch of them.

I didn't answer your first question. There is not a separate trim piece, it includes the levers, harness and slides all as one piece.

Jim, or anyone who has done this nightmare of a job!

Can someone tell me how to get the cables released for the unit? They have an L bend in them, and even with the unit unbolted from the back and the out sheeth fasteners loosened, I can't seem to get the cables off. Don't want to bend them, either.

Is there a trick?

TIA!

the trick is to leave them attached to the dash unit, and disconnect the other end of the cables from the levers, out in the trunk area, and then pull the whole works thru.
