Monaco Historic GP

I have booked my flights and accomodation for this event on the 15th and 16th May this year. The event runs every 2 years but I have never been before and am SO looking forward to it.

Has anyone ever been and can pass on any recommendations - where to spectate, where to socialise, etc?

Just got to book up for the Classic Le Mans in July now.

Wow! That sounds like a great spectacle. I've seen a "regular" gp there, but a historic one would be really nice to attend. As far as viewing location, all the usual spots that are in high demand for normal gp's are good. Starting with the best, last two corners of the lap (it's actually one big hairpin) there is a 2-level restaurant "La Rascasse." The corner is named after it. From the 2nd level you can see the cars accelerate all the way from the pool, head straight at you, brake, turn around the building and accelerate away down the front straight. Lower floor has a little less view, but they do have an "open" area which makes you feel like the car is within reach. Needless to say, for normal gp's that place is sold out until 2008, not sure about historic though.

The hairpin hotel is another good place. I think it's called Grand Hotel, used to be Loews. Changes name all the time. Half that hotel's windows face the hairpin, but the best view is from the roof deck where the pool is located. I guess as long as you can get into the hotel's lobby, you can make your way to the roof, but it's going to be first come first served basis.

The casino rotary (roundabout) is pretty good, but they don't really have seating there. If you can get situated on the far side of the casino/rotary (it's a botanical garden/sculpture area there) you can see the cars approach the fast curve, go through it and accelerate away.

I would avoid straigtaways. Cars just blast by too quickly. I guess that as long as you are near a corner (they are all taken fairly slow), there is not a bad place anywhere on the course.

Either way, enjoy and don't forget about us (have that camera handy please)
