Exactly why I don't want/need to know any more. When you buy a tired car, you really don't want to know how badly it was floogged.

For those of you that found perfect cars, that's fantastic. You can be proud of it's history.

as far as "numbers" searching and other documentation, what's the best way to trace it? is there a database other than chssis/engine numbers?

I met a guy with an MGB this summer & got talking about our cars. It turned out he had bought my '69 E in Germany around 1990 and brought it into Canada when he got posted back. Upon his divorce, his wife sold it for C$3000. I have managed to trace it through three others until I bought it. Funny thing, although it kept going back to Halifax (Nova Scotia's capitol city), three of us who have owned it in Canada live within 10 miles of each other, 2 hours from the city and none of us bought the car from each other! But now its MINE MINE I tell you!!
