Rear bearing replacement cost?
How much should it cost to have a shop replace a rear wheel bearing on a late 80's Carrera? What should it cost if the trailing arm is brought into the shop for the job?
thanks,

John, I wish I lived in your neighborhood!
Local quotes are 485-578 per side.

that's an obvious rip-off. how can they turn a 1.5 hour job, plus a $70 bearing into that? ask them how that breaks down. and keep shopping. there must be one honest shop around there.

I just had mine done for $240.00 plus the part (driver's rear), not happy, but I'm on the road anyway.
We need a John Walker in about 49 more states!

I was quoted $ 300-500 for one rear bearing and new boots on the same side cv. Way too high for my DIY blood.

When I had mine done (82 SC one side) my wrench looked it up in his computer and the labor time was listed as 1.5hr - he said that was too low and charged me 3hr labor (said it took 3hrs+). However, my hub was grooved and I had to order a used one for $60. I called the "other indy" shop in my town and they quoted 3.5hr labor. Good luck.
