Quick VIN help

Found a barn find but have my suspicions.. Some receipts I found in the car state it is a 1975, but car has been repainted and vin plate on windshield post is missing as is the door jamb sticker...
The receipts say it is a 911511xxxx with engine number 6400756.
On the front stamped trunk area is 91Axxxxxxx which in a 1980 model.

Should the last 4 digits be the same on the trunk vs other receipted VIN?

Can someone decode these for me quick? Lol..

ROW 1975 911 Targa (911511XXXX)

Engine : I can't find it. Is it possible that its 64C and not 640? If so possibly a 1980 3.0 engine. Does it have a red shroud?

Has it been forward dated with flag mirrors and rear SC flares?

I don't know what the 91A number is on the frunk.

VIN decodes to ROW 1975 Targa

Engine decodes to a 1980 SC, USA model

Trunk stamp decodes to a 1980 US SC Targa with 3.0 L engine.

My guess would be someone titled/registered the car as a 1975 from a 1980 in order to avoid emission issues. The 1975 VIN appears to be on paper only which doesn't really mean anything. The stamped VIN is the real identity.

Thanks for the replies.... the car is definitely an SC bodied car and does have the red engine shroud, so I'm sure the 91A VIN is correct, jut weird that they stack of receipts and insurance documents all say it's a 75. I'm waiting for him to find the title to verify.

All it takes is one official registering document with the incorrect VIN to result in all other parper work/receipts to reflect that error. This is not uncommon. The owner may not have done it himself, but the car is probably titled as a 75 and, if so, you have to decide if you want to deal with it. It's not a major deal to correct the paper work, but it would be nice to know why there is the discrepancy.

Interesting thing about the insurance documents. Should there be a serious claim and the body VIN is used for verification, there could be a serious problem regarding whether or not coverage will apply.

Got the title, it has the correct 91A VIN on it, so it's all good and now in my possession! Owner passed away and it's been sitting for @12 years so who knows why it has all of those '75 receipts...

Thanks for the quick help everyone. I was in the right place at the right time and had to act quickly..

May be receipts for another car he owned, or as sometimes happens, the shop has the owner and a VIN on file and does not change the VIN when the owner brings in a new car.

Don't throw away the receipts, someone might search their VIN, find this thread, and want those records. :-)
