How do you remove the gauges on a '69 911 please
So the gauges on the '69 911 have the two retention bolts on the backside to hold them in, unlike later gauges that can simply be popped out.
So here's my stupid question: how do you get to the backside of these gauges to unscrew the *$&@%%*# retention bolts? I tried to approach from underneath the dash this morning and couldn't even see the backside of the gauges. What am I missing here? Thanks to all! |
It's alot of blind reaching and stretching to get at them from under the hood. Total PITA. That's the way to do it though.

be a very slim figured and agile person
in other words ... loose that beerbelly !!! :D |
For some of the guages, it helps to remove the ventelation and fan box which only takes a few minutes. It doesn't make reaching all of the guages easy, but it does make reaching some of them easier.

Like John mentioned, remove the blower, then try and remove the clock, once you have one gauge removed, you can access the rest from the front. Reach in through the clock get the speedo, reach in through the speedo get the tach....
Id say go for the clock first... it seems easier to remove than the fuel gauge.... |
Thanks for the tips guys. This outta be fun!
