Steve, There were three factory styles. Inside/Top rear window, Inside/Bottom rear window and the rear stalk on the outside on the deck lid or base of a tail.

Some here have used inexpensive/commonly available LED strips in the rear window and I have seen custom tail rubber with built-in lights.

Which would you like to see?

Thanks Rick, I was looking at the type that runs along the top rear of the roof line. Like on the 964 Turbo's. I think I saw a post here some time back. It sticks and clips to the top rear window and covers the vents there.
Cheers Steve

I think you might be thinking about the 993 style. The one that looks like a small spoiler on the top of the rear window. There is a place that sells them, kind of pricey. I'll see if I can find a link.

Steve-
try the thread below - it has several embedded threads with mounting of third brake lights, complete with installation pictures and commentary. I'm not familiar with any outside mounted ones, except the 'hoop' style on the 993s. FWIW, I mounted a high interior one in my '85 Targa - easy installation.

BTW, RickM is the man with respect to wiring these - his posts with the appropriate connectors to tap into the existing wiring were the real deal!

third brake light threads here

hope this helps and good luck!
