Fixed upright seat guys...Q

Do you find it a pain to reach into the rear seat area with the fixed upright racing seats? Do you even need to? What about vacuuming/cleaning rear seat area? Can you do it just sliding the seat forward? I've been thinking about going with even lighter (and hopefully leather) seats (I've got Recaro SRD's now) and was wondering what the downsides to these seats were. TIA

I've always thought that unless the car was a track car only that something like a Recaro SPG on the driver's side and then an SRD on the passenger's side would be a good compromise that still allowed relatively easy access to the back, but also kept weight down and provided the support that a fixed seat can.

This is a real problem and I'm wrestling with some sort of *elegant* solution.
A couple of variations, here:
- put both seats on sliders and see how much that gains you. Maybe only a little in terms of being able to put a duffel bag in back.
- put one/both seats on a tilting base.....example: from Sparco. It allows the seat to hinge forward. Problem in most cases is that it eats up a lot of headroom ( especially if used in conjunction with sliders) and the seat height may contact the headliner too early in the "swing", and not gain the access desired. Might also be too flimsy or not allowed for racing sanctioning bodies.
- simply unscrew the rear horizontal mounting bolts. Leave the front ones in-place... and hinge forward as desrcibed above. When done, replace the two screws.
- variation of the "unscrew" method above by fashioning a spring loaded plunger that takes the place of the rear mount screws. Using a key-ring lanyard attached, just pull against spring pressure... and tilt. When you tilt back...the spring loaded plunger will "snap" in place, instead of using the recessed hex screw.

Unfortunately....I haven't "designed" this stuff yet

I have them in my SC and yes it's a pain to get anything out of the back or clean it. Mine are bolted in place with no for or aft adjustment either which makes it even worse.

I might be interested in your SRD's if you decide to sell them.
