could it be that simple?
 

no idle today...coasted up into the garage after work. I poked around (the plastic bellows thing on the left above the air pump is for the heater, right? that shouldn't affect idle?), and pulled the airbox cover. I checked to make sure the pop off valve was seated and worked, and saw that a small part of the upper edge was a little rough (but not much). I reseated the airbox cover, strapped it up, and fired up the engine. Idle seemed OK. Dropped to about 800 for a second, then back up to around 900. Opening the oil cap dropped the idle like it should.

So it couldn't have been that easy to fix, right?

It's complaining because you took the duck tail off. See, I told you it should have been left on! :D

Did you lift the flapper part of the valve & then reseat it? If so, the valve may not have been seating properly before.

Exactly why I hate pop-off valves and don't have one. Not the place for a big vacuum leak. I've rarely seen one installed well enough to be 100% tight.

And yes I know about blown air boxes, but not much of a risk if motor and injection system is maintained properly, especially on late SCs. :cool:

You fiddled, and it's fixed. That means either you unintentionally solved the problem, or it's an intermittent failure. Either way, the result is that you get to (or need to) keep driving.
