Shifting Noise
 

I have an '88 carrera w/ 116,000 miles. When shifting from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd I hear a rattle noise until the rpms climb back up. Is this a problem?

I think you might be running into a known issue where the shift rod is vibrating in the center tunnel. I think the factory fix was a big rubber band in there, but I can't remember exactly where it went. Maybe you can find it with a search, or if you wait long enough someone who does remember might post it.
