Just stopped by the Costco on Barrett Pkwy. in Kennesaw and picked up a hell of a floor jack. Get this: 3.5 Ton lift capacity, 4 inch start height, 21 inch raised height, built like a tank-$69.95. The thing weighs a ton-not very portable but for a garage, this thing is the shizz..

My Costco buy of the week would be the dual flourescent portable worklight. Their under $13 bucks now! I hooked it up to an old industrial retractable power cord and hung it in my garage. If purchased in this configuration you're talking about some decent coin.

Costco sells a cleaner called Oil Eater.
That stuff is the best for cleaning really grimey, oily things. Very strong, though, need to be careful. Best for HD things like differentials, bottoms of really dirty engines, suspensions, etc. |

I saw a lightweight aluminum "racing" jack at Sams for $159. Not sure how good it is, but it looked nice.

I think I have that identical COSTCO jack (mine is red with NASCAR labels all over it). It does weigh a TON, but it is great for building confidence when you are lifting a car, truck, or the side of your house!

I just ordered a 2 1/2 ton long jack from Harbor Freight that supposedly gets as high as 30". I hope it delivers as advertised...

Mike, I know the lightweight HF jack your'e talking about. If I'm not mistaken it only lifts 1.5T not very much higher than my Sears special. However, it is light and looks cool...

Wayne,
Of course these are Chinese Jacks (hey, isn't there a game with that name?), but they are very strong and rated to lift two 911's - much higher than many domestic offerings, and much more that we will ever see (at most, I lift both rear wheels of my 911 ~ 2000 lbs?). Jacks are cast steel with very few moving parts. Only an idiot would crawl under a car held only by a jack, so what is the risk? I've been using this COSTCO model for about two years - flawlessly. Long-live solid Chinese knock-offs! :-)

Once worked across the parking lot from a medical firm. The firm had one product that the FDA finally never approved so they went bust. Big liquidation yard sale...picked up all kinds of Craftsman box end wrenches for 50 cents each, all kinds of medical wire clippers and strippers for 50 cents each (the Swiss stuff), a couple big file cabinets...
An EE friend got a Fluke scope for like $90...
