Need photo of '69-'71 911S oil console
I am trying to an external oil cooler installed properly on my '69 911S. When I got it, it had nothing but the original hard lines remaining.
I got a front oil cooler kit from Chuck at Elephant.... and I found a factory oil filter / thermostat console used (at least I think its the correct thing). On the '69 to 71 911S cars, the oil lines ran from inside the engine bay, through the rear fender, through the rocker panel and into the front fender well to the cooler. These hard lines I have in place. Inside the engine bay, the hard lines connected to a thermostat and oil filter console with lots of hoses and other parts attached. I have never actually seen this assembly properly installed on a car. Anyone have some pics of what its all supposed to look like??? Thanks, any help figuring out how to get this thing installed and working properly is greatly appreciated! Terry |

Hi Terry,
I have this setup and also a spare S set in the loft. If no one else can help I will try and borrow a digital camera to show you but this will not be until next week. There are some pictures of my old car here, but I do not know how clear the ones of the oil lines are. http://www.smartgroups.co.uk/pictures/openalbum.cfm?GID=1732050&AlbumID=2958825 HTH Alan.UK

I paid $300 for the oil tank, filler neck, oil console and lines. The photos in your link do help, but I really need some close ups of inside the engine bay showing whever everything runs and how its all connected. If you can help, Id really apprecite it!
Anyone else got some photos ?

Yea Bob..... thats a start. Got any more? Can you show where the lines all run too? A couple more from some different angles would give a complete picture of how its supposed to look and fit.
THANKS!

Max's diagrams show it best....the problem in the engine compartment is getting enough room to take a shot.
The air cleaner is in the way on the left of the shot and on the right, the body overhang is the problem. It is my understanding that the 69's are alone in the design of the oil tank and filter and the lines feeding them. Bob

Does part #59 attach to part #64?
Im guessing that 64 is the thermostat. Are there replacements for this thermostat available? Is there any way to tell if the one I have is no good? The parts I have.... I am missing 65, 66 and the entire 62 assembly. Anyone have these parts or know where they could be had? Thanks! Terry

I believe you are correct...#64 is the thermostat....
#66 is the line going to the front oil cooler. #62 & @63 are the lines from the filter to the thermostat. #65 is the line coming back from the cooler. #53 is the filter holder of course...but it also has internal passages to send the oil to the thermostat and receive the bypassed oil back from the thermostat. #54,55,56,57 are something to do with high pressure relief in the system if the oil cooler is blocked I think, or maybe to keep pressure from blowing the filter. here is a diagram and part numbers from the PET.
I think that the 'E' in front of some of the part numbers denotes that the part is 'NLA' from Porsche. ![]() ![]() max

13 and 14 are the only 2 pieces I know I am missing at this point. Anyone have these lines? They dont look like they would be hard to replace. Seems you could have some braided steel lines made up to work fine if you knew what fittings to use and such.

Terry....the lines are part hard and part flexible.
I checked mine just now....I think the reason for the hard parts are so the turns don't kink. If you use all flex...you should investigate the possibility of angled fittings to start the curves. I was thinking of getting rid of all this stuff in my compartment to go with aftermarket thermostat and front cooler. But I won't be tearing it apart for a while yet. Bob

Zeve,
Thanks for the pics! I do now know how it all mounts up. All I need to install it now is Parts #13 and 14 in maxes diagram. Anyone have these? Terry

In the diagram that max posted above, I am still missing parts #6, #8, the flexible portion and the steel pipe that attaches to the oil console on part #13 and the flexible pipe portion of part #14.
The guy I bought this stuff from used assured me it was "complete". After 3 months and 2 attempts to ship me everything, its still not complete and I dont think it ever will be. Basically.... I got ripped for $300. Anyone have any idea where these mystery parts could be obtained? Terry
